Top Tips for the Pioneer DJ XDJ-XZ

The Pioneer DJ XDJ-XZ is a powerful 4-channel controller. Here are our top tips to get the most out of it and control the club.

Before you start

The most important tip before getting started is to make sure you are running the latest Pioneer DJ XDJ-XZ firmware and Serato DJ Pro 2.3.3 or higher.

Getting started

Firstly, you want to connect the Pioneer DJ XDJ-XZ to Serato DJ Pro. To do this, press LINK, the screen will show that you are now in “CONTROL MODE”. After that you want to push the LOAD 1 button which will connect Serato DJ Pro to the first deck, similarly, you want to push the LOAD 2 button to connect Serato DJ Pro to the second deck.

As a result, you will be able to see that you have connected your Pioneer DJ XDJ-XZ to Serato DJ Pro. You can check this by looking at the screen. You should be able to see Serato listed under the Deck 1 and Deck 2 sections, as well as the waveforms.

Changing to decks 3 & 4

Double tap SHIFT to switch between decks 1/3 and 2/4.

Top Tip for the Pioneer DJ XDJ-XZ #2:
CDJ2000NXS HID mode style controls

The Pioneer DJ XDJ-XZ inherits many of the controls from Pioneer DJ’s CDJ2000NXS2.

  • BEAT SYNC = SYNC ON, MASTER SYNC = SYNC OFF
  • Looping controls
  • Adjust the waveform view using the encoder knob on the controller

Serato DJ Pro Pad Modes

The primary Pad Modes are (from left to right) HOT CUE, AUTOLOOP, ROLL, SAMPLER. The secondary Pad Modes are (from left to right) SAVED FLIP, SLICER, SLICER LOOP, PITCH PLAY. Press shift along with the desired mode button to access these.

Crossfader curve options

All crossfader curve options and most mixer controls are under the pioneer utility settings. Accessed by holding down MENU.
