Reversing samples for intros

A great way to build tension rising from the intro through to the beat drop. Repurposing a sample you’ve used in your beat and reversing it quickly foreshadows what’s to come, creating a smoother transition.

Select your sample, and duplicate the channel (Command + D). Take the last quarter bar (or more if you wish) and hit the reverse button in the sample deck. Place the MIDI in your scene deck from where you want it to start.

To make it more fluid, automate the volume and filter upwards to build to the crescendo. This will avoid the sample coming in too hot from the outset and sounding out of place.

That’s it. A simple but effective way to add more flare into the start of your beat.
